Description of New Content |
The Use of Scaling in Engineering Design
Goals |
Students will be re-exposed scaling and exposed to the importance of scaling in engineering design. This lesson is designed to be address remedial math needs of students as well as introduce applications of the math.
Materials Needed |

|
Procedure |
Engage students by asking how to fit a 10-story building on their desk. After brief discussion of this problem, show students a 1 foot model of 10-story building. Explain why and how scaled models are used in various fields of engineering. Discuss problems on page 1 of scaling handout . Have students complete the remainder of the handout for homework.
